Artist’s Interpretation
“Bathsheba was a beautiful sexual temptress, who in her youth would capture the eye and heart of King David, Israel’s greatest King, and who would later become the protective mother of David’s heir, King Solomon. I created Bathsheba modeling from a live young Israeli model, with a wholesome, gracefully believable body -- not a Hollywood pin-up. First, I made many sketches of her from every angle so I had her captured in my mind. Then I photographed her so I would have a permanent reference when she was not available. She was a pleasure to work with and she could hold a pose forever.
RICHARD MINNS
Description of Sculpture
Richard’s Bathsheba is the portrait of a graceful nude, modelled from life. It illustrates the artist’s knowledge and appreciation of the female nude. Notice the delicacy of the way the breasts are carved, with such gentleness in the curves flowing out to the nipples, the soft flesh below the breasts swelling slightly around the belly and then curving back into the pubic area. The lovely thighs and the perfection of the legs. The beautiful back and luscious buttocks. This is a highly polished original bronze which, because of the excellent choice and use of patina, conveys the impression of green Florentine marble.
