Artist’s Interpretation
“I am and always will be a student of Michelangelo, the greatest sculptor in the history of the world. I have always admired his magnificent paintings on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel and have spent many hours standing with my head bent back, eyes focused above me on the ceiling, studying them until it felt like my neck would no longer support my head.
“I have always admired Michelangelo’s Masterpiece of G-d creating Adam. It is my pleasure to honor the Old Master by giving 3-Dimensional LIFE to his Masterpiece by preserving it in bronze.
“Michelangelo saw G-d as immensely powerful, with hands, fingers and the wrists and forearm of a Hercules or a power lifter. Since Adam is created in
G-d’s image, Adam is equally powerful.
“I have tried to capture Michelangelo’s exact image to incite instant recognition, but I have injected my own interpretation. Adam’s index finger is more outstretched. G-d’s index finger is more pointed, more thrusting as he breathes LIFE into the world’s first man. The fingers of G-d and Adam could be the long sensitive fingers of a concert pianist, but with the power of a Hercules. G-d’s hand is larger and more powerful than Adam’s, as it should be.
“This was a labor of love. I hope that you enjoy it half as much as I enjoyed creating it”
Richard Minns
