VIEWS/DETAILS

Artist’s Interpretation

“I am and always will be a student of Michelangelo, the greatest sculptor in the history of the world.  I have always admired his magnificent paintings on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel and have spent many hours standing with my head bent back, eyes focused above me on the ceiling, studying them until it felt like my neck would no longer support my head.

“I have always admired Michelangelo’s Masterpiece of G-d creating Adam.  It is my pleasure to honor the Old Master by giving 3-Dimensional LIFE to his Masterpiece by preserving it in bronze.

“Michelangelo saw G-d as immensely powerful, with hands, fingers and the wrists and forearm of a Hercules or a power lifter.  Since Adam is created in

G-d’s image, Adam is equally powerful.

“I have tried to capture Michelangelo’s exact image to incite instant recognition, but I have injected my own interpretation.  Adam’s index finger is more outstretched.  G-d’s index finger is more pointed, more thrusting as he breathes LIFE into the world’s first man.  The fingers of G-d and Adam could be the long sensitive fingers of a concert pianist, but with the power of a Hercules.  G-d’s hand is larger and more powerful than Adam’s, as it should be.

“This was a labor of love.  I hope that you enjoy it half as much as I enjoyed creating it”

Richard Minns

Description of Sculpture

Michelangelo’s painting is the greatest single influence on the art and sculpture of Richard Minns.  As  tribute to Michelangelo, Richard has captured the essence of Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel Masterpiece of G-d Creating Adam, bringing the fresco painting to life in a magnificent 3-Dimensional Bronze, which carries with it Richard’s own individual anatomical Neo-Classical interpretation.

Although Michelangelo’s one-dimensional view of the almost-touching fingers of G-d and Adam have become a global symbol, with one of the highest recognition factors in history, this view is only one of the many views offered by Richard’s 3-dimensional sculpture.

Since the Creation of Adam was G-d’s final creation at the end of the sixth Biblical Day in His creation of the world, Richard has created the frame of the world and, symbolically, the hands of G-d and Adam are surrounded by the world and come out of the world itself.  The world’s axis is mounted on a circular base with an electric-operated turntable hidden inside, so that the world will slowly rotate on its axis and will turn 360 Degrees fully around in 30 seconds, thus capturing and holding the viewer’s attention for a full 30 seconds to one minute.

This world is given an interesting grey earthy granular patination which effectively frames the two powerful hands without competing with them.  All attention is on the magnificent hands and forearms in a Classic Old World dark deep brown Patination.

This is the work of a figurative Neo-Classical Sculptor at the peak of his creative power, realistic and physical, with anatomical perfection, highly charged with emotion and movement.  Once again, Richard’s mastery of anatomy breathes life into these famous hands.  The hands come ALIVE before your eyes.

This is a sculpture of which you will never tire, because every time you see it, as the world rotates and the angle and lighting changes, you will observe something new and exciting.
